Dani King Rides in to First Place at the Red Hook Crit

12th July 2016

The Greenwich Peninsula played host to the London leg of the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series on Saturday 9th July, as cycling enthusiasts and athletes took part in this unique and thrilling bike race. Presented by Rockstar Games, Olympic champion Dani King rode in her first Criterium and walked away women’s series champion, after winning the women’s title race. Never before has the Red Hook Criterium seen this level of domination from any rider, male or female. Given Dani’s calibre, many anticipated that she would contend for the podium, but no-one thought she upend the race so completely, as King rode aggressively, gaining around four seconds and sweeping away a portion of the field each lap.

Before the race, Dani said: “I’m thrilled to be taking part in the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series to compete against some of the world’s best fixed gear cyclists. I can’t wait to be involved in what will be a spectacular showcase for women’s cycling.” The world’s premier track bike Criterium series, the Red Hook Crit is unique in that it requires athletes to race multiple laps around a 1km (approx.) technical circuit on brakeless, fixed gear track bikes. One of the most visually spectacular, spectator friendly, adrenalin-charged bike races in the world, the Red Hook Crit has rapidly grown since its humble beginnings in Red Hook, Brooklyn in 2008. Expanding first to Milan in 2010, followed by Barcelona in 2013 and London in 2015, it firmly establishes The Red Hook Crit as the world’s premiere track bike criterium.
