Explore Learning announces the return of The National Young Mathematicians’ Awards!

Explore Learning is excited to welcome entries for the new format of the National Young Mathematicians’ Awards 2018.  The competition, aimed at school children, lets them compete against other teams across the country to be crowned the National Young Mathematicians of the Year!

Now in its ninth year the contest is organised by tuition provider, Explore Learning and NRICH at the University of Cambridge.

Schools can enter a team of four pupils who tackle a never-before-seen mathematical problem.  The Primary Competition is for pupils in Year 6 (England) and P7 in Wales and Scotland and below while the Secondary Competition is for pupils in Year 8 (England) and 2nd Year in Wales, Scotland and younger.

The first of the three rounds takes place on 7th  & 8th November with the semi-finals following on 5th & 6th December, to determine the top five teams in the UK.  The highest scoring primary and secondary schools will then head to Cambridge to take part in a grand final in January.

Charlotte Gater, Head of Curriculum at Explore Learning says: “After the positive feedback from teachers, parents and children alike we have decided to grow the competition to encompass secondary school children  – giving those from years seven and eight the opportunity to show off their maths skills and compete in a fun, challenging environment.”

Both runners up and the winning teams will receive bundles of prizes including books, Meccano, i-Tops and Sum Fun games.

Take advantage of the FREE problem-solving workshops at Explore Learning to help prepare and  for more info, downloadable, teacher resources and to register teams, please visit  www.explorelearning.co.uk/youngmathematicians.  Good luck!
